Today is National Tooth Fairy Day – a perfect time to learn more about your child’s dental health. Tegwyn Brickhouse, DDS, PhD, a pediatric dentist at Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU, shares some tips on how to provide proper dental care for your child at any stage. From gums to the first tooth Dental care begins even before you child has teeth. Parents should use a soft, wet washcloth to care for and clean a child’s gums. Some companies even make finger washcloths specifically designed for infants. Parents can expect to see a first tooth, typically in the lower front, at 4-9 months of age. As you’ve probably heard, VCU Health System has proposed a plan for a new, freestanding children’s hospital. The VCU Health System Authority Board has appointed a Strategic Advisory Committee to meet with community stakeholders to gather information and feedback on the proposal, and we would love to invite you to share your input. The Committee is in the middle of a 90 day process for collecting feedback from stakeholders, and as a community member, your input is essential.
