Meet Emma, our February Calendar Kid

Six-year-old Emma Blair says she’s “happy to bring a smile to others” as the featured patient for the month of February in CHoR’s 2016 Tid*Bits calendar. Photographed in a lab coat to illustrate a research-themed article, Emma says her favorite part of the experience was watching staff make “potions” for the beakers she held in the picture. “It was so much fun,” she says. “I love smiling for the camera.” Emma is an enthusiastic first grader at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Richmond. Art and religion are her favorite subjects, but she says she likes science a lot too and is currently learning “about the stages of life in nature” in her science class. At home she likes to spend... Heart month: Caring for children’s hearts

Within months after Henry Johnson moved to Richmond, specialists from the Children’s Hospital Foundation Heart Center at CHoR discovered the severity of his heart condition and were able to surgically repair his four heart defects. Henry, who once tired easily when walking or moving, is now a two-year-old “ball of energy.” Heart defects are the most common type of birth defect, occurring in about one in 100 live births. Tour de CHoR: Take a virtual tour of the new Children’s Pavilion!

The grand opening of our new outpatient Children’s Pavilion is just around the corner, and we couldn’t be more excited to share it with you! The Children’s Pavilion will consolidate outpatient services under one roof. Everything from clinics and diagnostic testing to same-day surgery and dialysis. The Pavilion experience is designed to be convenient, while providing a welcoming environment for children to find healing, hope and happiness. The Pavilion is stacked with features created with families in mind, like 600 parking spaces, a Sibling Center, and an outdoor Sky Terrace.
